Brett Martin Daylight Systems successfully overcame many challenges when providing daylight for the Killanin Stand near the Atlantic coast on the west coast of Ireland. Trilite Ultra translucent GRP weather sheets completely cover the stand’s canopy roof. Installed in lengths of over 17m, the GRP sheets are opal tinted to provide 50% light transmission which produces a carefully controlled level of diffused daylight. With a Superlife finish for enhanced UV protection and durability, the sheets are only end-lapped at positions where the roof angle is greater than 5° to comply with best roofing practice and to ensure the structure remains watertight. All the sheet weights, panel sizes and fixing details were determined by the technical team and extensive use was made of CAD modelling during the design stages.
