New York Stadium

New York Stadium, Rotherham FC

Over 4,800m2 of clear Marlon CS profiled polycarbonate sheet was used to glaze the spectacular rooflight canopy at the new state-of-the-art New York Stadium, home to Rotherham FC, more commonly known by fans as ‘The Millers’.

Officially opened in August 2012, the 12,000 capacity stadium is located in the heart of Rotherham, flanked by the River Don to the east and the railway line to the west on the former Guest and Chrimes factory site. The steelwork company made the iconic fire hydrants seen in New York City and led to the site becoming known locally as New York, a name which was adopted for the new stadium.

Designed by S&P Architects, the £20M stadium’s innovative design features a coffered standing seam roof with a polycarbonate canopy. Stepping down from the main west stand towards the river, the roof allows natural light to penetrate the stands creating the ideal spectator environment, whilst allowing daylight to reach the pitch resulting in good grass growth and assisting with defrosting of the pitch in winter.

Marlon CS Longlife polycarbonate is renowned for its robustness and weatherability. The sheet comes with a co-extruded UV protection layer and carries a 10 year light transmission and a 3 year weather breakage warranty.  Find out more about Marlon CS.
