Marlon Clickfix 1040 lights up Sainsbury's

Sainsburys Leicester vertical glazing

The stock and loading areas of supermarkets normally rely on artificial lighting so when it came to the construction of a new ‘carbon neutral’ store for Sainsbury’s in Leicester, Brett Martin provided the Marlon Clickfix 1040  polycarbonate glazing system, helping to create a bright, appealing and naturally-lit working environment for the supermarket employees.

The new 81,700 sq foot flagship store on the edge of the city is one of the retailer’s most sustainable store, featuring an innovative hybrid timber frame as well as eco initiatives including Combined Cooling, Heat and Power (CCHP), rainwater harvesting and a petrol filling station that incorporates PV panels within the glazed canopy. Central to the design of the store’s loading bay area was the requirement for natural light, with 480m2 of Marlon Clickfix 1040 polycarbonate panels  in glass clear effect ensuring this highly trafficked area of the supermarket is bright, appealing and flooded with natural light.

Marlon Clickfix also ensured a simple, hassle-free installation for specialist contractor Angus Roofing. Consisting of damage resistant Marlon Clickfix 1040  multiwall polycarbonate panels and utilising Marlon Clickfix VF glazing bar profiles for vertical glazing applications,  the system is designed to simply click and fix together to create seamless façades.

“The Marlon Clickfix 1040 polycarbonate glazing system is lightweight and easy to work with, which made for a simple installation process,” commented Grant Taylor, Site Supervisor, Angus Roofing. “We were able to quickly complete the installation with a very small team, and the resulting finish was superb. Natural light now floods the area, meaning the store will have little requirement for artificial lighting, helping to drive energy consumption down.”

Central to the Marlon Clickfix 1040 system is the lightweight 500mm multiwall polycarbonate panel with integral male/female connections that simply click into place to form glazed areas of unlimited size and shape. The 40mm 10-wall structure of the panel achieves a U-value of 0.99 W/m²K, providing a thermally efficient glazing solution whilst bringing natural daylight into many building types.

Available in a wide range of tints and colours, Marlon Clickfix 1040 provides high quality natural light, superior thermal insulation and UV protection. It is also lightweight and easy to handle, in addition to the impact resistance, resilience and structural strength that is inherent in all of Brett Martin’s high performance polycarbonate sheet products.

The Marlon Clickfix 1040 system has a choice of two thermally broken aluminium glazing bar systems depending on the application. The Marlon Clickfix VF glazing bar system has been specifically developed for vertical installations such as façades, partitioning and rain screens whilst Marlon Clickfix RL has been designed for use in low pitch rooflights and canopies.

Natural light can improve the atmosphere and internal aesthetics of any new-build, refurbishment and extension project. With the installation of Marlon Clickfix in the back of house area of Sainsbury’s, Brett Martin continues to make a contribution towards improving daylighting levels,  reducing energy use and the overall carbon footprint of a wide spectrum of building types.
