2016 iAwards Winners

Judging for the annual iAwards competition is now complete! The standard of entries received this year was very high with a number of strong contenders but the judges have made their decisions and we are delighted to be able to announce this year’s winners as follows:

1st Place – Four Seasons Hotel, Western Romania
Clear Marlon FSX Longlife flat polycarbonate was used to create this stunning curved glazing feature on the new extension of the Four Seasons Hotel in Western Romania. Situated in Apuseni Natural Park, close to the Apuseni Mountains, the Four Seasons Hotel is built into the side of a cliff making the weight of the materials used in the building a key consideration to ensure it remains structurally sound.

The entry was supplied by Marcell Lantos, Schnaider, Hungary who said “We are delighted to hear that the Four Seasons Hotel is the winner of the 2016 iAwards and will feature in the 2016 calendar! This is a fantastic application showing how Marlon FSX can be used to create a spectacular feature in any building. Marlon FSX Longlife was chosen for this project as it is much lighter than glass and can be cold curved on-site which made the installation much more straightforward”.

2nd Place – Da Passano Restaurant, France
Marlon CS Diamond corrugated polycarbonate was used to create a striking focal point out of the bar in the stylish Da Passano restaurant in Corsica. The front of the bar was clad with Bronze Marlon CS Diamond and fitted with lights to the top and bottom of the bar which reflected beautifully throughout the prismatic embossed surface of the material. Marlon CS Diamond also has superb impact resistance making it ideal for applications which may be prone to impact damage.

“Marlon CS Diamond is a very exciting product. The ‘diamond’ embossed surface is very attractive and fitted in perfectly with the modern interior of the Da Passano restuarant. We are thrilled to hear that our application came in 2nd place in the iAwards” said Patrick Audoux, Abaqueplast, France.

3rd Place – 2015 British Open BBC Commentary Box, St Andrew’s
Clear Marlon FSX Longlife was used to glaze the BBC commentary box at the 2015 British Open Golf championships at St Andrew’s in Scotland. The impressive half round window was glazed with a single 7.7m long sheet of clear Marlon FSX Longlife to give the commentators a clear view of the golf course whilst protecting them from any rouge golf balls!

John Vero, Access Plastics submitted the entry “We are very pleased to come 3rd in the iAwards and have our application featured in the 2016 calendar. Marlon FSX Longlife was the ideal choice to glaze the BBC commentary box due to its optical clarity, high impact resistance and it ability to cold curve on-site”.

Brett Martin would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all of this year’s winners and thank everyone who took the time to submit their application photos.

The winning applications along with a selection of other entries are featured in the 2016 Calendar.

Remember to keep sending in your application photos to cherylmcilhinney@brettmartin.com
