Brett Martin is delighted to announce that it has taken two top honours at the 2016 European Polycarbonate Sheet Extruders (EPSE) Awards held during the K Show at Dusseldorf in Germany in October.
Now in its eighth year, the EPSE Awards recognise the best projects featuring polycarbonate products. International projects were submitted to this year’s awards over three categories: sustainability, innovation and design. Brett Martin took the top prize in two categories; in Design for the application of its Marlon FSX Longlife Dual UV Protected Polycarbonate Sheet at the Four Seasons Hotel Extension in Romania; and in Innovation for the Daher Airfreight Container for the application of its Marlon FSX Longlife clear polycarbonate flat sheet.
Receiving the awards at a ceremony at Messe Dusseldorf were Brett Martin Managing Director, Laurence Martin, Sales Director, Duncan Smith and Andrew Fennel, Business Manager - Bespoke Rooflights, Brett Martin Daylight Systems. Laurence Martin said: “We are delighted to win these awards as they demonstrate the versatility and quality performance of our products and their unique application in terms of design and innovation.”
The Romanian Four Seasons Hotel extension consists of an arch shaped glazing application, all comprising flat polycarbonate. Both 4mm and 6mm clear Marlon FSX Longlife polycarbonate sheets were used to create 16 uniquely shaped triangles to form the impressive double glazed façade. The use of Marlon FSX polycarbonateenabled the architects to create a strong and safe structure; its clarity created spectacular views and provided a light and bright internal space.
Daher Aerostructures & Systems was working with a major aerospace engine manufacturer to find a solution to replace an ageing fleet of containers used for transporting large aero engine parts around the world. Using polycarbonate in a new context, this bespoke project achieved its key objectives through innovation.
Firstly, a ‘lightweight solution with maximum strength and rigidity’ was achieved through using materials of the highest quality and specification. Secondly, a ‘solution offering easy maintenance and repair’ was achieved by designing a system to take account of potential handling damage. The structure enabled standardised components to be replaced in the event of a repair being necessary. Thirdly, a solution which showcased ‘visibility and security’ was developed through the integration of an access door with a 3mm Marlon FSX Longlife Clear panel in each unit.
Commenting on Brett Martin’s two awards, Sarah Goerres of EPSE said: “We congratulate Brett Martin for their grand and uplifting projects. The use of polycarbonate for the hotel extension reflects the architect’s vision of creating a stunning, modern building that sits perfectly amid the more traditional buildings of the Romanian village. The Daher Container offers a similarly innovative lightweight solution.”
The EPSE Awards reward and recognise the finest polycarbonate projects across Europe. And with the quality of entries this year far exceeding the judges’ expectations, Brett Martin has once again set the standard for other manufacturers to follow.
