Watsons Windmill, Sheerness

Watson's Windmill in Sheerness, Kent was refurbished using Cascade Cast Iron Style Rainwater & Soil Systems

Brett Martin’s innovative Cascade Cast Iron Style Rainwater and Soil System has played its part in the restoration of a 19th Century Mill in Sheerness, Kent. Built in 1813 and once used as a smock mill, the Grade II listed building has been painstakingly restored to its former glory having been damaged by fires in the 1980’s and again in 2008.

While modern materials were used where possible, to safeguard the future of the mill, the owners were keen to ensure that the building’s character was preserved. Close attention to detail was paid throughout the building with the installation of bullseye windows, beautiful timber staircases and wooden mill doors. Externally, developers installed Cascade’s 106mm Prostyle Rainwater System and complimentary 110mm Push-Fit Soil System on this prominent landmark, in keeping with the heritage aesthetic and replicating cast iron features, dimensions and detailing.

Offering the appearance of traditional cast iron with all the benefits of modern plastic materials, Cascade is a fraction of the price of cast iron and even aluminium and makes it possible to create a heritage aesthetic without compromising architectural integrity saving materials, labour and time on site.

With an extensive choice of domestic and industrial gutter and pipework profiles including 106mm Prostyle, 112mm Roundstyle115mm Deepstyle and 160mm Roundstyle, the Cascade Range also includes traditional hopper designs, in a range of six heritage colours. Fully compatible with both existing cast iron and modern-style rainwater systems, Cascade really does make a cast iron case for plastic.
