Roof Slope

Roofs should be designed with a minimum slope of 5 deg. (1cm rise per 11cm slope length) to allow for rainwater run-off.

Glazing Systems
Martherm can be installed using many of the currently available glazing bar systems suitable for 16mm polycarbonate and acrylic sheet. It is imperative that the fitting instructions for the chosen glazing bar system are read in conjunction with this installation information.

Fitting Martherm
Fitting of Martherm sheets should be the last stage of construction. The structure should be complete with all components of the selected glazing system in place, and wood preservatives where used thoroughly dry. Martherm sheets must always be installed with the ribs running vertically. They can be installed with any side facing outwards as the entire sheet is made from UV resisting material.

Compatibility of Materials
Always ensure that gaskets, sealants and other materials used in installation do not have a detrimental effect on the sheet. White finished glazing bars and accessories should be used with Martherm as these accumulate less solar heat than dark coloured components. Wet wood preservatives must always be avoided.

Dark Coloured Materials
Where Martherm sits on or passes over dark coloured materials eg. purlins, the top face of these should be painted white.

Sheet Width and Edge Engagement

Martherm sheet is a standard width of 980mm and can be used with many glazing bars spaced at 1m centres. Where glazing bar centres of less than 1m cannot be avoided it is necessary to cut the sheet lengthwise in such a way that there are no unsupported edges within the glazing bar. An internal rib of the sheet must always be at least 6mm inside the engagement point of the glazing bar.

Maximum Purlin Centres
Martherm must always be installed on purlins at centres not exceeding 1m.

Cladding Buttons
Use two cladding buttons per sheet width on the edge purlin: drill holes for cladding buttons between sheet ribs: drill clearance holes 3mm larger in diameter than the fixing button shank to allow for thermal movement. Do not overtighten the fixing as this will distort the sheet and may lead to water ingress.

Closing Ends
The top edge of Martherm sheets should be sealed to prevent dust and moisture ingress. The bottom edge should be closed with a ventilating closure sealed to the top of the sheet with silicone sealant.
