Ark Academy

Ark Academy, Wembley - Ritchlight Mono Skylight

Within sight of Wembley Stadium’s iconic arch stands the new Ark Academy.  Specialising in citizenship and maths, the Academy was built under the London Borough of Brent BSF programme (Building School for the Future) and a strong community ethos is central to the school’s curriculum.  Costing £26.4 million it was built in 2010 to provide state of the art facilities for approx 1,630 students from nursery through to secondary level.

Sustainability and daylight were fundamental to the design criteria and Studio E Architects designed the Academy to achieve a "very good" BREEAM evaluation rating.  Brett Martin’s Technical Sales Manager, Gary Steel, worked closely with the main contractor and roofing contractor to meet the project specifications for thermal insulation and acoustic performance whilst keeping within the budget requirements.

Eleven rooflights, comprising 7 Ritchlight mono skylights and 4 Xlok Ultra panel glazing systems were installed.

In non-classroom areas, Marlon ST multiwall was the preferred glazing option with Ritchlight Monos and Xlok Ultra panel glazing systems installed in circulation routes and a Ritchlight mono skylight installed over the atrium.

The single sloped Ritchlight mono skylights located over classrooms were glazed in glass to meet the project acoustic requirements.

Brett Martin supplied all flashings and designed 2 non-standard units with dog legs including valley trays and all rooflights were installed by Brett Martin’s in-house installation team.
