Oldbury Academy Ritchlight Ultra Rooflight

Brett Martin Daylight Systems manufactured and installed an impressive Ritchlight Ultra skylight at the new Oldbury Academy in the West Midlands. Measuring 6,850mm long by 5,310mm wide, this makes it the largest gable-ended skylight manufactured by the company!

Fabricated using thermally-broken aluminium glazing profiles powder coated to RAL 9910, Brett Martin’s fully trained installation team erected the skylight on to a builder’s weathered upstand prepared in advance by roofing contractor Roofdec.

Comprising 12 bays on each 30° sloped side with 9 bays on each gable end the Ritchlight Ultra is located in the main teaching block at Oldbury Academy. Providing an attractive feature to the new build the skylight creates a welcoming and inviting environment in the teaching area directly underneath.

During the design stage careful consideration was given to the glazing specification and antisun glass was used to reduce the risk of solar overheating and glare.

Three Ritchlight mono pitched rooflights were also supplied to daylight other classroom areas at the school. Measuring 2,450mm long x slope length 2,650mm, these were also installed by the installation team on to prepared upstands.

Ritchlight Ultra skylights have been developed to deliver maximum light transmission allowing artificial lighting to be turned down or off when natural daylight levels are adequate and achieve high thermal performance with U-values as low as 1.1 W/m²K. The new Oldbury Academy build has achieved a BREEAM rating of Very Good through measures put in place by Interserve, the main contractor on the build, to ensure good building practice in sustainability at the site.
