Leigh Sports Village

More than 4,000m² of Brett Martin’s Trilite Ultra 45 GRP sheeting encircle the rugby and football stadium at Leigh Sports Village that has won an inclusion in the London 2012 Pre-Games Training Camp Guide for competing nations from around the globe.  Some 3,600m² of tinted profiled sheet was specified by Insight Technical Services for the canopies that extend the aluminium standing seam roof across the pitch. This is supplemented by 500m² of tinted profiled sheet underneath the terraces to complement the louvered external walls of the concourse. Brett Martin’s heavy-duty Trilite Ultra sheets were selected to create a light and airy atmosphere whilst protecting spectators from the elements, and to allow natural daylight to reach the grass pitch, which is a top grade surface to withstand the mix of rugby and football. The architect also selected the sheets for the vertical cladding to maximize natural light underneath the terraces and minimise the requirement for artificial light during the day. The £16 million, 10,000-seater stadium will be home to Leigh Centurions Rugby League and Leigh Genesis soccer clubs, and in tune with a philosophy of mixing different standards of athletes, will also be available for key amateur clubs and schools fixtures as well as for local festivals and community events.
