Floating Farm Announced as the Winner of the 2020 iAwards!

Brett Martin 2020 iAwards Winners

Brett Martin is delighted to announce the innovative Floating Farm submitted by Witteburg B.V. The Netherlands, as the winner of the 2020 iAwards!

Coming in a close 2nd place was the EAVan (Electric Assisted Vehicle) submitted by Peerless Plastics and Coatings, UK and in 3rd place the impressive Greenhill Farm submitted by Greenhill Systems, Northern Ireland. A huge congratulations to all of you!

1st Place – Floating Farm, Netherlands (Marlon Clickfix)

158 panels of clear Marlon Clickfix1040 at 3.3m lengths were supplied by Witteburg B.V. to glaze the outer façade of the lower level of the Floating Farm in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.

Marlon Clickfix Floating Farm

Floating Farm, an alternative for the scarce availability of land, produces and retails day-fresh food through a closed cycle and close to the consumer. This causes almost no waste streams, reduces the length of the logistics chain and enables the consumer to become familiar with agriculture and the processing of healthy, day-fresh products.

The cattle have access to grass beside the farm and the farm itself consists of a milking parlour on the upper level and processing factory on the lower level.
Marlon Clickfix1040 contributes to the Floating Farm by providing natural daylight whilst maintaining thermally efficiency for the factory space on the lower level. The panels are also light in weight making it the ideal solution for this fantastic floating structure.

We think you will agree that this is a highly innovative project and a very worthy winner of the 2020 iAwards!

2nd Place – Electric Assisted Vehicle, UK (Marlon FS)

Peerless Plastics and Coatings fabricated and supplied the Marlon FS windscreens of this innovative solution to inner city transportation designed by Electric Assisted Vehicles Limited. The EAVan is a solution aimed at reducing C02 emissions in European cities initially by targeting the last mile on deliveries however, the platform has been designed to offer tailored solutions including mobile barista stalls and snacks / sandwich refrigeration vans. These zero emissions vehicles are manufactured from recyclable materials.

Marlon FS EAVan

Peerless Plastics and Coatings hard coated full Marlon FS sheets on one side and fabricated the windscreens using a CNC router. The obscuration band (including EAV logo) was then screen printed on the uncoated inside of the windscreen then hard coat applied over the top of the screen print to provide long life abrasion resistance on both sides. The windscreen was then cold formed into place on the EAVan.

This application show cases the impact resistance of Marlon FS, its suitability for screen printing, cold bending and its diversity of use.

Another truly innovative application. This was a very close runner up. Congratulations!

3rd Place – Greenhill Farm, Northern Ireland (Marlon CST)

Marlon CST Longlife corrugated multiwall polycarbonate was used the glaze the entire roof of this agricultural building in Co. Antrim, Northern Ireland.

Marlon CST Greenhill Farm

6mm Triplewall 177/51 profile was chosen with a heat reflective pigment. This allowed for high levels of natural daylight through the roof but with a significantly reduced heat build transfer than would be experienced with a clear sheet. The result is a bright building with a controlled and comfortable temperature inside.

Marlon CST Longlife is manufactured from damage resistant polycarbonate which is 200 times stronger than glass. The multiwall structure adds rigidity to the sheet for enhanced spanning capabilities.

Another great application indeed – well done!

Brett Martin would like to congratulate this year's winners and thank everyone who took the time to enter the competition. The winning applications along with a selection of other entries are featured in the 2020 Calendar.
