Brett Martin Makes Impact at Big5

Brett Martin Team at Big 5 Exhibition 2012

Brett Martin, UK manufacturer and worldwide exporter of plastic rooflight sheets, glazing materials and architectural rooflight systems, made its inaugural visit to Big 5 in Dubai this year. Displaying its market-leading range in the busy UK Pavilion, the company’s presence proved a popular draw for visitors.

Representatives from both Brett Martin Plastic Sheets and Brett Martin Daylight Systems’ divisions were present for their Big 5 premiere, exhibiting the company’s high performance plastic sheets and next generation rooflight systems. With an unparalleled range; export credentials spanning more than 70 countries; and design and technical prowess only available from such a respected name in the global plastics industry, it was a combination set to impress show visitors.

“We aimed to promote the breadth of the Brett Martin range and our solid record of working on large-scale Middle Eastern projects,” said Tom Ogilvie, Managing Director of Brett Martin Daylight Systems. “We certainly achieved that, while also underlining the quality control and technical support standard in our products.

“Our manufacturing facilities have achieved the quality standard BS EN 9001 and the BS EN 14000 environmental standard, while many of our product accreditations, BBA (British Board of Agrement) for example, are well respected in the UAE.”

Brett Martin’s show-stoppers proved to be the extensive options in Marlon polycarbonate; next generation Mardome rooflights; technically superior Trilite GRP sheet; and the innovative panel glazing system, Marlon Clickfix.

Brett Martin is recognised globally for its range of thermoplastic rooflight sheet and glazing, which graces installations including the canopy of Cluj Arena in Romania and the closing roof structure of the Sante Fe shopping mall in Columbia.

Whilst the company is known for its expertise in manufacturing an extensive range of plastic rooflight sheet, with polycarbonate, PVC, aPET, Styrene, SAN and Acrylic options, it was the high-performance Marlon polycarbonate that proved a popular choice. Suitable for any roofing, glazing or cladding application, Marlon polycarbonate includes multiwall, corrugated and flat sheets in various tints, colours, coatings and finishes, all with co-extruded Longlife UV protection.

Of particular interest were Marlon CS profiles available to match all the main metal profiles in the UAE region, especially solar controlling opal, pearlescent and heatguard tints which offer quality, diffused light transmission. The more insulating multiwall structures, dual tints and IR heat blocking technology all struck a chord with architects seeking to balance light transmission, solar control and thermal efficiency. Marlon FSX and abrasion resistant Marlon FS Hard flat sheet polycarbonate (providing impact resistance 200 times greater than glass) proved popular glazing options, suitable for the extreme climate conditions experienced in the Middle East.

Equally popular was the company’s BBA-approved Trilite GRP range. Featuring options to satisfy safety levels, U-values and fire ratings of any project, Trilite attracted enquiries ranging from warehouses and factories to retail and leisure facilities.

Adding to the company’s product offer was its versatile rooflight range; the most extensive available from a single source. David Biggs, Commercial Director for Brett Martin Daylight Systems commented: “Mardome rooflights are a huge hit in the UK domestic and commercial markets and proved very popular at the show.

“Together with our complementary ranges of skylights and suntubes, visiting specifiers and contractors could easily see the simplicity of naturally daylighting any sort of application. Our rooflights have been used to great effect in many new build and refurbishment projects across the Middle East including aircraft hangars in Dubai, a huge sulphur processing plant in Abu Dhabi, and a retail outlet in Cairo.”

Maintaining its position as an industry innovator, Brett Martin’s architectural glazing system Marlon Clickfix also took centre stage. A modular, multiwall polycarbonate panel which clicks together for glazed areas of unlimited size and shape, Clickfix offers diffused natural light, superior thermal insulation of 0.99W/m2K and UV protection, plus the inherent resilience of polycarbonate.

Michael Colquhoun, Director of Export Sales for Brett Martin Plastic Sheets summarised the event:

“We were gratified by the interest expressed in our plastic sheet range from main contractors, architects and specifiers to end clients and roofing and cladding specialists,” he said. “We were able to offer a quality choice and trusted advice to all of these groups, and thank them very much for visiting us.

“We took a number of enquiries and built some valuable contacts at the show and were honoured to be among the world-class specialists represented in the UK Pavilion.”
