Marlon FSX provides a lightweight answer for BOA Kong's spectacular roof

Marlon FSX flat polycarbonate sheet was used to create an eye-catching roof in the BOA Kong restaurant which is located within the BOA Club, one of Bucharest’s top nightspots.

In November 2022, this project was announced as the winner in the Brett Martin iAwards in the category Architecture and Construction - Roofing.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • UV resistant
  • Impact resistant
  • Lightweight
  • Easy to cold bend

Designed by the architect team from Grosu Art Studio, the pan-Asian restaurant offers spectacular views of Herastrau Lake. The natural woods used in the construction and the plants dotted around the space bring a feeling of nature and the Asian jungle into the restaurant.

The huge 12.75m high dome floods the area with natural light. Initially, the designers wanted to use glass for the dome. However, they soon realised that glass was too heavy for their design and would be difficult to bend into the individual sections which are mounted into the curved wooden structure.

They needed an aesthetic solution that would ensure the maximum amount of natural light whilst withstanding environmental factors, such as strong sunlight in summer. Another important reason for choosing Marlon FSX polycarbonate was its ability to be easily cut and bent into the shapes required for the organic roof design.

In addition to the curved dome, the outdoor terraces are also covered by Marlon FSX canopies to allow them to be used in all seasons.
