Winner - Architecture & Construction - Rooflights: Stöng Viking Settlement, Iceland

- Location: Þjórsárdalur valley, Iceland
- Building Type: Viking Settlement Heritage Site
- Product: Marlon CS, Clear
- Distributor: Metal IS
Stöng is a Viking Age farm in Þjórsárdalur valley, South Iceland, dating back to 830 AD. In 1939, archaeologists uncovered the well-preserved ruins of Stöng. While several farms were excavated, only Stöng remains visible above ground. Today, you can see the stone foundations of this Saga-age farm. A protective wooden shelter with a red roof was added in 1957 but had fallen into disrepair. A new transparent structure was completed in 2024 to better preserve and showcase the site. The entire roof of this impressive structure is glazed with Marlon CS corrugated polycarbonate. The 2mm thick, clear polycarbonate offers exceptional clarity, allowing maximum natural light to pass through, creating a bright and welcoming environment beneath. Additionally, the co-extruded UV protection layer effectively blocks harmful ultraviolet rays, safeguarding both the historic site and its visitors, while significantly extending the polycarbonate sheet lifespan.
